Tweetree

Tweetree is an alternative to the web interface at Twitter.com featuring expanded URLs and threaded conversations. Aside from those features, it sports a web interface whose primary difference from twitter.com is skin deep.

Tweetree handles all of the common Twitter streams & features like home, @ mentions, direct messages, and favorites. It has basic search and lets you save your common searches. It has a handy button for retweeting as well.

Conversations and Links

One of Tweetree's differentiating features are link previews. The previews display automatically under each tweet. Some links just display the HTML title, while links to RSS items display the content from the feed.

The other is threaded conversations, which allow you to see all the @ replies to a particular message you post. If you reply to someone else, their tweet is pulled into your stream, along with your reply, but it does not show others' replies to that person unless you also follow them.

Not Easy to Use

One thing that stood out was the lack of responsiveness from the website in general. Although many things are handled via Ajax and don't require a full page load, I found myself staring at the little loading graphic a little too long in some cases (long enough to flip over to another app and see if it had updated already).

Final Verdict

Tweetree gets a rating of 2/5 stars for this web app. The lack of compelling features along with the sluggish web interface means it does not stand out in the competitive crowd of Twitter apps. You can get news and support by following @tweetree.
