Syrinx

Syrinx is a free, customizable twitter app for the Mac. It's interface is simple yet configurable. You can view a column at a time, either your friends, your @ mentions, or your DMs. Some key features:

  • Pausing your activity will stop all new messages from being announced, including the dock badge counter and sound notifications. It continues to collect your twitter stream, and when you un-Pause, it will instantly update, showing you everything it collected while paused, complete with the unread count.
  • Bookmark allows you to mark exactly where you stopped reading so you can pick up later
  • Instantly Filter your twitter stream with each keystroke (just like iTunes). Global search available in the Search window.
  • Search across all of twitter
  • Buddy List to keep up with your twitter contacts, separate from the messages they post

Lightweight and fast

Syrinx used a modest 40MB of memory while doing all sorts of tasks. Its interface is minimal, fast and instant. There's no "send" button, for instance, just hit Return to send the tweet. There is all sorts of functionality tucked away in the menu, each with it's own shortcut. These don't seem to be configurable. One minor complaint is that you have to click on a tweet to access its actions. Most programs display when you hover over them to save an extra click.
