Tweetings Mobile

Tweetings Mobile is a secure, full-featured Twitter app for iPhone and iPod Touch that supports Push Notifications. Although the development company appears to make primarily Windows software, their venture into the iPhone space is very commendable. Tweetings Mobile can do everything Twitter.com allows you to do, including posting tweets, following/unfollowing/blocking users, reading @ mentions and DMs, and public timeline searching. Some notable features:

  • Secure - just like its Windows counterpart, Tweetings Mobile uses OAuth to interact with your Twitter accounts without storing your password inside its memory ().
  • Helper Apps - Tweetings Mobile has support for URL shortening and photo sharing. It allows you to use a built-in web browser or you have the option to open links in Safari.
  • Shake to Hide Menu - you can shake your iPhone or iPod Touch to hide the interface of Tweetings, and shake again to bring it back. The idea is that you have more screen real estate without the top bar and bottom row of buttons.
  • Paging - for those who get overwhelmed by their number of tweets, you have the option to paginate your stream, with options for 20, 50, 100, or 200 tweets per page.
  • Footer - Tweetings Mobile has support for a signature, or as they call it, a footer.

Push Notifications

An oft-overlooked feature for the iPhone Twitter apps, Tweetings Mobile can display a notification on your screen when you get new tweets, even when you don't have Tweetings open. It can also display a number badge similar to SMS, Phone, or Email app icons, so you don't have to open it to see how many unread messages you have. It takes a couple steps to set up Push Notifications, including re-entering your password (full instructions). Remember that the Notification settings are in the Settings app on the iPhone, not within Tweetings Mobile!

Update: it seems as though the app has trouble figuring out when you have seen a tweet or DM, so the badge is often out of date, making you think there's new stuff to read when there actually isn't. Hopefully they'll get this fixed!

Quick and Responsive Support

You can follow the very responsive Tweetings team on Twitter @tweetingsapp. As noted in the Windows review, they are friendly and responsive, willing to help out each individual who contacts them.
